Where would we be without vacations? Overstressed, overworked and overwrought! Even going away for just a week or two a year is usually enough to help us feel refreshed and revitalized until next time where we can get away. Whatever you do on vacation, chances are it’s exactly what you’d like to be doing instead of work. Even if it’s simply sitting on a porch with a glass of wine and a good book… at least it’s not work. So you don’t have to spend your entire year’s wages on a vacation to make it worthwhile. When you get away however, there are do’s and don’ts to vacationing that will help keep the price down while still allowing you the full enjoyment of getting away from it all. And don’t forget one of the frugal person’s mottos… it’s the little things that count.

Staying in a hotel is fun

I love staying in hotels; even cheesy ones! Of course the luxury resort type hotel is exactly that; a luxury. Sometimes, we tend to have a little too much fun in our hotel rooms by ordering room service. Just call up your own private chef and have him fix your meals right outside of your door. It will probably be cheaper. Okay realistically, room service is fun but pricey. If you want to feel special by getting room service, have a pot of gourmet coffee delivered to your door in the morning. You will feel special, having gotten pampered; and your budget will still be intact. Enjoy that coffee like it was your last cup! Ordinarily, we simply use the coffee that is provided with the little coffee pots in each room. It’s horrible, but it’s ‘free’. The coffee you get from room service is tasty, a great way to kick off your morning and makes you feel special. What more could you ask for?

Don’t forget the Internet, Travelocity is a favorite

Booking a vacation can be very expensive, but many people forget to take advantage of online coupons. Many booking sites such as orbitz and travelocity offer promotional codes. Apply one of these promotional codes at checkout to get discounts from a few dollars to a few hundred bucks off. I applied a travelocity promotional code when I traveled to Hawaii, and received a $50 savings off my travel. Talk about savings! All I had to do is search online for these “travelocity promo codes”.

Bring me a souvenir

How many times have you heard that? Well if you’re going to bring things home to remind you of the fabulous time you had on vacation, make it something useful. Non utilitarian souvenirs simply get tossed in a drawer, forgotten about and sold at the next rummage sale. One frugal minded vacationer suggests buying something and that can serve as a Christmas ornament. Once a year, you bring it out, hang it on your tree and reminisce about the great time you had on vacation that year. With enough of these you will be reminiscing for weeks after decorating your tree every year. Some locations even sport Christmas Stores, where you can kill two birds with one stone.

But I don’t want delivered pizza again tonight

The nicer hotels more often than not have attached restaurants/and bars. Not all of them however, allow you this convenience. And when they do, after a couple of days you’ve probably eaten all your favorites off the menu… now what? Allow yourself the privilege of one night to eat an extravagant meal out. Whether it’s locally stocked seafood or free range porterhouse steak, make it something special and memorable; and for goodness sake enjoy it! This is a treat. Even if you have to cut back in another small area, be sure to pamper yourself at least once with drinks and dinner at one of the area’s fine dining restaurants. Maybe you could spend a little less on the hotel, maybe walk or take the bus instead of a taxi, there’s lots of ways to save enough to make you feel good about the dinner out. And if you’re staying at in hotel room that has a kitchen, shop at a local, inexpensive grocery store and make as many meals in your room as possible. Yet another way to save!

Oooh, that’s the spot

A massage, a manicure or pedicure or possibly a facial… the royal treatment for the frugal vacationer is not only marvelously self indulgent but relaxing and well worth the extra dollars you’ll spend on it. Once again, cutting back somewhere else will allow you to feel better about throwing some money into the spa treatment of your choosing. Painted toenails in crazy designs and colors are great fun for a beach vacation. Wiggling your toes in the sand becomes a conversation starter just like that.

High quality manicures and pedicures will even outlast your vacation!

Rome is beautiful in any season of year and in any day though it were rain, sunshine or snow. Last year, during my first trip to Rome in a few days it were raining there. No doubt a vacation in Rome can be great when the city’s at its sunny best – but that’s usually when it’s most expensive, too, right? However the eternity city is the place you always get kaif, especially if you cared enough for bournemouth hotel accomodation, bed & breakfast, inn, guest house, hostel or apartment you can just get rest in after all.

Well, where to go in Rome in rainy day? There are many museums are open but not fully protected fron a rain, such as Forum and Colosseum are. But if you put on your rain jacket and take an umbrella you can spend amazing time.

All of the churches of Rome are also opened, so this might be a good time to visit some of the most beautiful ones:

The Pantheon is absolutely a must see, of course as well as San Pietro in Vincoli and Michelangelo’s sculture of Moses placed there.

Go to San Luigi dei Francesi to enjoy with Caravaggio’s paintings, or to Santa Maria del Popolo that has Pinturicchio frescoes, Bernini sculptures and also Caravaggio paintings. You can visit San Paolo Fuori le Mura still that has the appearance of an early Christian basilica, the cloister of this basilica is also very beautiful etc.

Like the touch of rain she was
On a man’s flesh and hair and eyes
When the joy of walking thus
Has taken him by surprise:

With the love of the storm he burns,
He sings, he laughs, well I know how,
But forgets when he returns
As I shall not forget her ‘Go now’.

Those two words shut a door
Between me and the blessed rain
That was never shut before
And will not open again.

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian islands and perhaps one of the most mountainous. Over eighty-five percent of the island is composed of rugged hilly terrain. Mount Ainos at the southern end of the island soars to a peak of 1628 meters and comprises a national park, featuring the rare Abies cephalonica fir trees and a unique band of wild horses believed to be descended from the steeds of Alexander the Great. From the slopes of Mount Ainos, the visitor can enjoy a panoramic view of the north-western Peloponnese and Aetolia as well as the islands of Zakynthos, Lefkada, and Ithaka.

To the west of Mount Ainos is Argostoli, which has been the capital and administrative center of Kefalonia since 1757. Most of Argostoli was destroyed by the massive earthquake of 1953, but the city, which sits on a beautiful natural harbor, has been rebuilt, and you can still visit the medieval Castle of St. George on the hill above Argostoli. Like most of the Greek islands, Kefalonia has seen more than its fair share of foreign occupiers, and the Castle was built by Venetians between 1500 and 1540 on a site occupied since Byzantine times. A second larger castle is located north of Argostoli. Assos Castle was constructed in the late 16th century and was used as a prison first by the Venetians and subsequently by the Germans during their occupation of Kefalonia in World War II.

There are two museums well worth visiting in Argostoli. The Archaeological Museum on G. Vergoti Street houses an impressive collection of Mycenaean artefacts from Kefalonia’s rich prehistoric past. The Korgialenios History and Folklore Museum exhibits local costumes, furniture and household items, as well as historical archives.

To the east of Argostoli lies the beautiful Koutavos lagoon, home to a wide variety of birds as well as Caretta caretta, a protected species of Loggerhead sea turtles. You may also spot Mediterranean monk seals swimming in the azure waters off Kefalonia. The many sea caves along the rocky coast provide refuge for these increasingly rare mammals. The Museum of Natural History of Kefalonia and Ithaka in Davgata, about 5 km north of Argostoli, gives the visitor a good overview of the environmental history of Kefalonia.

A holiday in Kefalonia offer access to some of the best beached in the Greek Isles. Sandy or pebbly, washed by the crystal clear blue and turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, the beaches and sea caves of Kefalonia can be accessed from land or water. Near the town of Sami on the eastern shore of Kefalonia are two remarkable land caves: The subterranean lake of Melissani cave can be explored by rowboat, and spectacular stalactite-filled Drogorati cave is over 150 million years old.

The town of Sami is also famous for the film “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”, which was filmed here in the summer of 2000. Situated on a wide bay, Sami was a prosperous timber port in ancient times. At the northern tip of Kefalonia is the village of Fiskardo, a jewel of well-preserved architecture.

Maroochydore, the center of the Sunshine Coast in Australia, is a well-liked holiday setting. The Maroochy district is fortunate to have miles of sandy beaches and ocean for surfing. Additionally, the area has acres of city parks and national preserves. It is a starting place to view tourist attractions in Queensland. Maroochydore has unique site to entertain visitors.

Cruise Hervey Bay to observe the glorious Humpback Whales playing in the sea. During the journey, the day sailors will navigate through Hervey Bay and explore Hervey Bay and Maryborough townships. The Tasman Venture’s is specifically planned for whale watching with decks set up for 360 degree views of the water plus viewing rooms under water. Throughout the cruise, watch the whales from the platform that slowly lets down to the water level. Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea as part of the cost.

Board the Valley Rattler Steam Train for a ride through Queensland’s picturesque small towns. Start north to Gympie and wander through the towns of Amamoor and Dungan with a break at Kandanga.

After shopping at the local market, continue to Imbel and board the mini-bus to Kenilworth for lunch. Later, pause for a walk through tropical forests to wonder at the massive Morton Bay Fig trees.

Glide through the air at the 4,500 feet Gliding Adventure at Maroochydore. After boarding the glider, journey past the wrecks of Tangalooma and Moreton Bay. Enhance the venture, by gliding during the whale watching season. For the best views, the voyage will go across the side on the Pacific Ocean and pass up to Cape Moreton.

Poland is a trendy European country with a rich historical history. Taking international flights to this country, with it’s virgin territory, has turned into a major area for rural vacations. Many tourists come to get back to the basics. The opportunity to bake bread, or milk a cow offers a return to a simpler way of life. The countryside experience with all of it’s beauty, combines outside adventure in the form of canoeing, skiing or mountaineering.

Malbork Castle is located in Malbork, and served as the royal residence of the Polish kings when they had their yearly visit to Pomerania. This is one of the favorite sights, and largest brick structures in Europe. It has undergone a major renovation since it’s partial destruction in World War II. There are plenty of reasons to book international flights to Poland, and this is one of them. You can visualize the the Teutonic Knights when they arrived on the banks of the Vistula River and settled there.

A visit to Poland is never complete without seeing the place called Auschwitz. The Nazi’s invaded Poland in 1939 and set up concentrations camps with the purpose of the elimination of the Jewish people. The Jewish people were under the impression that they were being sent there to work in farms and factories. This was a very sad time in Polish history.

In Krakow experience The Market Square. This is the largest medieval market square in Europe. It is completely square and measures 200×200 metres. Other sights around the square are monuments and statues of the greatest Romantic Polish poet, Adam Mickiewicz. Poland is very proud of this famous poet and call him the Shakespeare of Poland. Located near the square is the well known Cloth Hall and the Old Town Hall Tower. Krakow is Poland’s prime tourist attraction.

The Royal Salt Mines are extraordinary and can be seen by an arranged tour. Allow a full day to view them. The tour is underground and takes about two hours. The beautiful restaurant and lounge will allow you to relax and rest after the tour. If you share the passion for travel on international flights, Poland will not disappoint you
